Last day.
Of the bits of Scotland that are left and that can be done in half a day, the Borders Line and the Fife Circle are the most significant, so that's what I did.
A miserable day much of the time. During the return trip over the Forth Bridge the rain/fog meant that the two road bridges were almost invisible, even at such a short distance.
Glenrothes with Thornton was an interesting station. I hadn't realized the station was so new; it was clear from looking at old maps that there had been a lot of railway lines around this triangular junction. It's also odd that the crossovers are west of the station rather than east, so that one platform serves trains both ways on the south curve and the other trains both ways on the north curve (rather like Worcester Foregate Street, but with less obvious justification).
And then finally heading for home. If I'd had another hour in hand, I could have gone round the coast line from Edinburgh to York instead of staying on the ECML, but I had a specific deadline to get home.
One last pleasant surprise: at Peterborough there was a train ready to depart for Huntingdon in a few minutes, meaning I was one service ahead of my expected arrival.
And so ends an enjoyable week. 63 trains. 2664 miles and 69 chains, of which 641 miles and 37 chains (24.07%) was new to me. Well over 1000 photos, a couple of dozen of which are actually quite good.
