While the old northbound track was abandoned, the space it occupied at the station wasn't wasted. As can be seen, it was filled in so as to provide a wider platform. As a result, Angel is one of the few stations where the platforms for opposite directions are different widths. Though the original platform edge is well concealed, it can still be seen if you look carefully (just to the left of the reflection of the strip lights in the polished floor).
