Postcodes - UK

UK postcodes are used throughout the UK (naturally), and by the three independent postal authorities of Guernsey, Jersey, and Man. There are two major systems: standard two-part postcodes (which is what the UK public think of when the term is used) and Mailsort codes.

Postcodes also appear in several machine-readable forms:

• the original system of blue dots, and its more modern long pink bar variant;
• the external three-part bar code, found in both pink and black;
• the internal three-part bar code, found only in pink;
• Mailsort codes using the 5-bit bar code.
