Shoreditch station

Photograph

An A60/62 train sits at Shoreditch station on the East London Line. Nowadays the line ends here (the buffer stop lamp is clearly visible), but through the archway under the red beam can be seen the route that the line used to take into Liverpool Street station, with a First Great Eastern EMU passing (observe the yellow front required for main line trains). The station is typically deserted - it sees service only in the rush-hour and on Sunday mornings, when it serves Petticoat Lane market.

The brick structure just above the train is the Bishopsgate viaduct; the line will be diverted on to it in the near future and Shoreditch will finally close.
