Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square station opened with the original Bakerloo Line, and as late as 1978 there would have been no need to comment on it here.

However, in 1979 the first section of the Jubilee Line opened. This terminated at new platforms which stretched between this station and Strand on the Northern Line, and as a result the whole lot was merged into a single station named after the nearby mainline station. However, since the name Charing Cross was already held by the next station south on both the Bakerloo Line and Northern Line, where they met the District Line, the latter was renamed Embankment.
