Aldwych

Aldwych is one of two stations in Lobo that no longer exist in some form, having closed on the 30th September 1994.

The branch from Holborn to Aldwych was always an oddity. The connection to the rest of the Piccadilly Line was built in such a way that trains couldn't routinely run between them. As a result, it operated as a shuttle (apart from a few late-night trains in the first year of operation). Demand was never particularly high and by 1962 it had been reduced to a rush-hour-only service. Such a service could not support the cost of replacing the lifts at Aldwych, and this led to closure.
